STI Testing: Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of frequently asked questions regarding sexual health testing. If you have any specific questions about Better2Know’s private STI testing services, please contact our welcoming Patient Services team.

How do I know if I have an STI? What are the symptoms?

Many STIs do not have any symptoms to start with. They vary by infection and can include (but are not limited to) unusual pain during sex or urination, unusual discharge, irritations, feeling run down or flu-like symptoms. Please select one of the individual STI pages above for more information about symptoms.

When should I get tested?

Each infection carries a different incubation period. This is the amount of time that you should wait between any incident you are concerned about, and getting tested. For example, Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea can be detected after two weeks, whereas Hepatitis B requires at least 28 days of incubation.

How long do results take?

The turnaround time for your test will depend on which test you choose. Most results will be ready within two working days, and all results will be ready within five working days. This begins on the day your sample is received in the testing laboratory.

Are my results confidential?

Your results are 100% confidential and will be known only by you and Better2Know. Your results will not be shared with any third parties without your consent.
