STI and an STD: What is the difference?
An STI is a Sexually Transmitted Infection, and STD is a Sexually Transmitted Disease. Given the choice between an infection and a disease (after neither), most people choose an infection. This better describes how what we at Better2Know test you for and how it is treated. So STI is the more contemporary term used in clinics.
At your appointment in Sydney, your samples will be taken by a discreet qualified clinician or phlebotomist. Once collected, your samples will be sent for analysis at our fully certified, Australian laboratory. Results should be ready within five working days of your sample’s arrival at the laboratory, though tests for infections such as HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B, as well as many of the STI screens we offer, will return your results even sooner. Results are reported to the secure patient login area of our website, which you can access at any time. A member of Better2Know’s sexual health advisory team will also contact you once all your results are ready unless you would prefer to contact us yourself. If any of your tests are positive, Better2Know will arrange for you to speak with a doctor who will get you a prescription for any medications you need or provide you with a referral to an appropriate specialist service.
