What is the difference between an STI and an STD?
An STI is a Sexually Transmitted Infection, and STD is a Sexually Transmitted Disease. STI is the newer word as doctors felt people are more likely to get tested and treated for an infection than a disease.
Testing with Better2Know is completely discreet, private and confidential. The clinician at your appointment will collect your samples and send them for analysis at our certified, Australian laboratory. Test result turnaround times may vary depending on your selected test or screen, with many of our testing options reporting results as early as one working day from receipt of sample in the laboratory. You can access your results online by logging in to the secure patient area of our website. Unless we are instructed otherwise, Better2Know will also contact you directly when all your results are ready. Please see the map below to locate our private sample collection centre in Brisbane.

STI and HIV Testing in Brisbane
It was revealed recently that there had been a 15% decrease in new HIV diagnoses across the state of Queensland. Whilst these are encouraging statistics, other harmful infections, such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea, have experienced a sharp increase in recent years. If you are unsure which infections you should be tested for, Better2Know’s experienced sexual health advisory team will be able to help you.
One of our most popular and conclusive testing options is the Better2Know Platinum Screen. The Platinum Screen will detect eleven of the most common STIs in Australia. These include:
- HIV
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhoea
- Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis C
- Syphilis
- Herpes I/II
- Trichomonas
- Mycoplasma
- Ureaplasma
This screen is suitable for those that have achieved a minimum incubation period of 28 days. That is at least four weeks after any potential exposure. You can add testing for infections like Hepatitis A and HPV on to this screen if you wish and if you would like to be tested for the same STIs even sooner, the Early Platinum Screen is available just 14 days after an incident of concern.
